BRIEF: Aviators' Christy takes no-hitter into the ninth
By Merced Sun-Star, Calif.July 7--ARCATA -- One night after suffering its first Far West League loss in embarrassing fashion, Atwater Aviators pitcher Kevin Christy gave the team the kind of lift it needed.
The La Salle University product continued his excellent start to the season, taking a no-hit bid into the ninth inning on Wednesday night.
The Humboldt Crabs' Brett Morgan broke up the no-hitter with one out in the ninth, but Christy and the Aviators still avenged Tuesday night's 9-2 thrashing with a 7-0 victory in the first game of Wednesday night's doubleheader.
A result for the second game wasn't available at press time.
The win improves Christy to 5-0 on the season and was his first shutout and complete game of the season.
Atwater (8-1 in league play) scored single runs in the second, fifth and seventh innings to build a 3-0 lead. The Aviators put the game away in the ninth with a four-run rally.
The Aviators return home for four games this weekend. Atwater will host the Fresno Cardinals on Friday night. The Aviators will follow with a doubleheader against the Auburn Cats on Saturday and one more against the Cats on Sunday.
