Bucyrus basketball standout has built life brick by brick
BUCYRUS -- When Kenn Coil returned to Bucyrus in June to give the commencement address, he spoke about doing great things in the world.
He spoke of his experiences and what one moment in time can mean.
He wasn't there to talk about himself. He was there to inspire young minds. It's something he finds himself doing yearly.

Coil is a 1961 graduate of Bucyrus High School and was a standout high school basketball player. His father, Kenneth, a pastor at the Church of the Nazarene, gave the commencement address that year.
From there, Coil went to Olivet (now Olivet Nazarene University) in Kankakee, Ill., where he met his wife, Martha. They married in 1965 and he graduated in 1966.
Coil then spent a few years in construction as a building contractor and in real estate in Eugene, Ore., before becoming a pastor in Burns, Ore., from 1970 to 1977. He traveled to Santa Rosa, Calif., and served at a church from 1977 to 1982.
In Fresno, he took over another church for three years and had another building project until he and his family moved to Brisbane, Australia, for two years. There, he and his wife taught at a Bible college and pastored at a church.
The family returned to Boise for two years and then went to Temecula, about 60 miles north of San Diego, for the next 19 years.
During that time he went on mission trips, helping people all over the world build homes, churches, hospitals and schools, brick by brick.
After 19 years he retired from his work with the Temecula Gateway Church of the Nazarene.
"We built that church on 26 acres of land," Coil said. "When we got to Temecula, there were probably about 30,000 people and 30,000 horses. Now there are about 300,000 people. It just boomed while we were there."
In April 2008, Coil built his own company, Lazarian World Homes. Coil travels around the world, helping others build homes and churches. One brick at a time.
